The Cool Kids killed their performance in front of a full crowd last night at SOB’s. Big shout out to @NeroInSpace, @JasmineSolano, @KittyoDoh @Scinebula and @Jerseyboys who were all in the building!
This Midwest hip hop duo, which formed when Mikey Rocks contacted Chuck Inglish about buying beats off of his Myspace page, has been making music since 2005.
As the story goes, when Mikey and Chuck met up to complete the beat buying transaction, they began to talk about everything in hip hop that sucked. Having similar feelings toward what was wrong with hip hop, they decided to form their own group thinking that as long as they agreed on what sucked, they, themselves, would never suck.
HipHopAtLunch.com sat down with The Cool Kids before they took the stage at SOB’s, to discuss everything from Twitter to the upcoming album, When Fish Ride Bicycles.
Days off while on tour are a lot worse than I thought! That being said, The Cool Kids make some good points about effective Twitter usage. While using the social media platform, they try to keep their tweets interesting and meaningful, straying away from turning Twitter into their personal diaries.
Unfortunately, it sounds like their upcoming album, When Fish Ride Bicycles, still needs a bit of work. At least the duo gave us their Gone Fishing mixtape, hosted by DJ Don Cannon, back in May.
That mixtape is a great prelude to their upcoming album, and features some of the duo’s best work. During their set, The Cool Kids performed a number of tracks off of Gone Fishing.
Check out their live performance of “Champions.”
The Cool Kids’ video display at their live shows is ridiculous! The special sports moments collage that was put together for “Champions” is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. If you are a sports fan, this is one song you will want to see performed live.
The NYC native, Tennille, was in the building to help The Cool Kids perform “Jump Rope.”
During the song’s performance, three of The Cool Kids’ biggest fans, decked out in custom made “Jump Rope” t-shirts, were brought on stage. These girls showed up a few hours before doors even opened so they wouldn’t miss their chance to meet the group. Mission accomplished!
Not every song was off of their latest mixtape, and The Cool Kids took the crowd back to their The Bake Sale EP with “Gold and a Pager.”
Despite never dropping an official album, The Cool Kids performed as if they were seasoned vets, having a deep catalog of hit records that made the crowd go crazy! At one point they even brought Notorious BIG’s daugther, T’yanna, on stage to wish her a belated happy birthday!
Here are some other videos from the night: Popcorn, Black Mags, Pennies, The Delivery Man, A Little Bit Cooler, and Mikey Rocks.
Be sure to keep an eye out for this accomplished group’s debut album!
