U-N-I – Pulp Fiction Part 1 (Featuring Fashawn)

U-N-I and Fashawn got real creative with this music video, that doubles as a short film.  Thurzday narrates the story, and the lyrics put forth by these three emcees effortlessly carry along the plot.

The focus on giving “Pulp Fiction Part 1″ the feel of a short film is realized when Y-O orders a burger:

“I need some food inside, my stomach mumblin,
I’ll take a kahuna burger with no onions,
Extra mayo on the bread,
Fries to the side, with a glass of lemonade to my head,
Now get it right and hurry back with my plate,
Leave us two alone so we can conversate.”

The boys conversate about getting quick money by selling drugs for Hispanic drug lord, Hector Ramon.  Commenting on Ramon, Thurzday spits:

“Fuckin with his money,
Like fucking with emotions,
And many bodies been dumped in the Pacific Ocean,
So, you fuckin with the devil, bound to hurt you,
Money in three weeks, or estas muerto.”

The video ends with a cliffhanger, as Y-O and Fashawn open up a suitcase from Hector and are shocked at its contents… To Be Continued!

Big Boi – Shine Blockas  (Featuring Gucci Mane)

Big Boi’s lyrics dance all over this wonderfully sampled track, as he talks about suckas tryin to stop his shine.  Gucci Mane’s verse and hook stay in tune with the relaxed feel of “Shine Blockas.”

Here’s Gucci’s stuntin hook:

“Im up on my grind shawty,
Don’t block my shine shawty,
Hold up, Hold up,
Guess who just showed up,
Rolled up, old stuff,
Drop with the doors up,
Im on my grind shawty,
Don’t block my shine shawty,
Wait a minute, Wait a minute,
Chill and let it sit a minute,
I can’t close my safe no more,
Cause I got too much money in it.”

If you are wondering what classic joint was sampled for the track, check out Harold Melvin And The Bluenotes’ “I Miss You.”

So far, “Shine Blockas” is my favorite track to leak off of the upcoming Sir Luscious Left Foot album.  The album is going to be amazing, if it ever drops!

Lil Reno – They Want Me Gone (Featuring Project Pat & Juicy J)

“They Want Me Gone” is the latest video shot off of the Play Me Some Pimpin Mane Pt 2 mixtape.  Juicy J and Project Pat use this video to introduce the young Memphis rapper, Lil Reno, to the world.  Juicy has been promoting this video on his Twitter:@TheRealJuicyJ like crazy, and I am happy that I clicked the link!

Lil Reno’s ridiculously raspy voice kills the hook:

“They want me gone (x8)
But I’m still standin, standin, standin,
But I’m still standin, standin, standin,
On my own, on my own,
On my own, on my own.”

Lil Reno beats out Yo Gotti for having the most raspy Memphis voice in hip hop, ha!

The track sticks with a usual topic, staying on the grind despite the haters, but with the chilling beat and sick verses put forth by the three Memphis rappers, this is more than your average rap song.

Juicy J and Project Pat have been consistently impressing me with their latest tracks.  Hopefully they can continue to get their old sound back and one day create more classic records like, Project Pat – On Nigga!

Due to his classic hip hop style, flow, and lyrical content, Fashawn has received a number of comparisons to a young Nasir Jones. These comparisons became even more rampant after the Fresno California native released his debut album, Boy Meets World, which featured album artwork similar to Nas’ Illmatic.

The success of Boy Meets World helped Fashawn grace the cover of XXL Magazine this spring as one of 2010’s artists to watch. Most recently, he re-worked Nas’ classic Illmatic, giving it a West Coast feel in Ode To Illmatic.
