Hot Songs – 10/22

By Mike Boyd - Hot Songs

Young Jeezy – Trap Or Die 2

“Trap of Die 2,” off of Jeezy’s Thug Motivation 103, is definitely a street banger.  TM 103 is slated to be released in December, but will most likely be pushed back, like most hip hop albums.

Other singles that have been released off the album are “Real as it Gets,” “I Got This,” and “Kobe, Lebron.”  This is quickly shaping up to be Jeezy’s best album yet.

Sticking to the word play, aka bird play, that has made his career, Jeezy spits:

“I’m about to give you game, nigga, no charge,
Still broke after that, then that’s your charge,
Pulled up full of hoes, then that’s my charger,
Pulled over full of O’s, that ain’t my charger.”

Classic Jeezy.

There was a lot of energy in Club Crucial when Jeezy dropped the Zaytoven produced track.  It’s a bit weird to see Zaytoven producing Jeezy’s single during the ongoing beef with Gucci Mane.

In case you didn’t know, Zay produces most of Gucci and OJ Da Juiceman’s mixtape beats.

Wiz Khalifa – The Thrill

As we’ve seen with “Air Born” and “Wussup,” Wiz Khalifa has had his share of success with remakes.  “The Thrill” is Wiz’s remake of the Australian duo, Empire of the Sun’s “Walking on a Dream.”

As we learned in a recent interview with Wiz, the inspiration on “The Thrill” came from speaking to college students in Kansas about his music tastes.  The students told him it’d be sick to hear a remake of “Walking on a Dream.”

On “The Thrill,”  Wiz doesn’t spit any remarkably insightful lyrics, but stays true to the track’s smooth, indie-rock feel.  He focuses his lyrics on women, money, living the good life, drinkin, and smoking that sour.  All of Wiz Khalifa’s fans will love this track!

“The Thrill” is off Wiz’s upcoming mixtape, Burn After Rolling, which should drop any day now!

Waka Flocka Flame – Let’s Do It

“Let’s Do It” is the hottest song in Atlanta’s streets, and consequently has been bringing Waka Flocka a crazy amount of buzz all over the country.

Waka wastes no time getting into the street lyrics on this crunk track:

“I fucked my money up,
Now I can’t re-up,
Ran up in his spot,
Just to get my stacks up,
Now I’m back on deck,
So shawty what the fuck you want?
Hear he talkin shit, but this aint what the fuck he want!”

“Let’s Do It” put Waka on the bill for last night’s CMJ event in Times Square alongside OJ Da Juiceman, Raekwon and D-Block.  Unfortunately, CMJ experiences a lot of set changes, and for whatever reason, Waka did not perform.

Getting his name on that list, however, is pretty impressive and speaks to the amount of buzz he has created around himself.

Having been signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 Brick Squad label, you can rest assured that this will not be the last time you hear about Waka Flocka.

Check out his latest mixtape, Lebron Flocka James, hosted by DJ Teknikz.

Waka Flocka Flame was born in Jamaica, Queens, to Debra Antney, Gucci Mane and Nicki Minaj’s ex-manager, but relocated to Riverdale, Georgia when he was 9 years old. Growing up, the rapper was given the nickname “Waka” by his cousin who thought that he sounded like Fozzie Bear from The Muppet Babies TV show. Years later, Waka’s mentor and CEO, Gucci Mane, evolved the nickname into Waka Flocka Flame.

Despite having a smash single in "Say Yeah," Wiz Khalifa spent 2 years sitting on the shelf at Warner Bros. Records. However, after leaving his major label situation during the summer of 2009, the XXL Freshman’s career really started to take off.

Due to an impressive amount of grass roots marketing, orchestrated by his current management team at Rostrum Records, Wiz's most recent project, Kush and Orange Juice, became a trending topic on Twitter and the talk of major music publications upon its release. Wiz Khalifa's once hard-to-pronounce name is now becoming more common place in hip hop discussions.

On July 30th, Wiz announced that he signed a record deal with Atlantic Records.
