This past week, Pill was in New York performing a number of shows for CMJ, and realized how big his buzz had become.
In a recent tweet, Pill stated, “new york showin major love.. CMJ week opened my eyes.”
That’s no understatement, as the weekend’s New York Times re-cap of CMJ explains. The article compliments Pill, saying that he’s lyrically stronger than your average trap rapper, is savvy about his web presence, and has a ton of charisma. These are features that allude to a promising career.
Despite NYC being a tough crowd, Pill could barely leave the stage before fans ran up, saying how much his performance meant to them! In case you haven’t yet, download Pill’s 4180: the prescription, and check out our previous interview where Pill touches on his background.
After his set, Pill spoke to HipHopAtLunch.com about Martha Stewart, his cooking show, whether things in Pink City have changed, and what we can expect on 4075: the refill.
Pill’s a humble dude who gives his all in every performance. If you saw him perform during CMJ, or watched a video online, hit him up on Twitter:@Pill4180 and let him know what you thought!
Pill’s Martha Stewart comments are made in reference to his cooking show, seen below. Check out the first episode, where he teaches us how to make a “Big Boy.”
The remote control toenail clippers and his shout outs to Martha Stewart are hilarious. Pill is currently waiting on Martha Stewart to call him back; I can’t believe she’s ignoring his “tight recipes,” ha! New installments of his cooking show are coming up, so stay tuned.
Until the next episode, listen to Pill describe what he likes on his Ham Sandwich!
If you want to try this at home, grab some french fries, cheese, ketchup, mustard, hot sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, salt & pepper, mayonnaise, and oregano. Put it all together, and “make that shit go ham!”
The first couple songs on Pill’s set were performed with Freddie Gibbs. Check out the duo’s performance of ” Run Up To Me,” a new song off of Pill’s upcoming mixtape 4075: the refill.
Pill and Freddie are a sick combination, and I think “Run Up To Me” will be my favorite track on the mixtape. Pill spits a culinary line with:
“Yam, Ham, Sausage, Meat, and Bologna,
In these streets, ain’t no homies,
You gotta keep you a chromie.”
The other new track performed by Pill was “Hear Somebody Comin,” produced by Tha Bizness.
Tha Bizness is a major production co-sign jumping on Pill’s already hyped sophomore mixtape, where he’ll be keeping the features to a minimum. This will prevent him from paying for big name features that will divert attention from his craft.
Other performances from the night were ” Trap Goin Ham,” “Glass,” and “Womb 2 The Tomb.”
4075: the refill will drop this November, and is going to greatly impact the course of Pill’s budding career. This mixtape needs to provide his fan base with more original content than 4180: the prescription.

Pill’s music is refreshing, as he paints a portrait of the streets in a very natural and real way, effectively shaming all the artists who pretend to be from his part of town. The XXL Magazine Freshman turned heads with his debut video for "Trap Goin' Ham," directed by Motion Family, as it graphically portrayed the poverty taking place in Pink City, five minutes away from a police precinct and seven minutes away from the state capital.
So far all of Pill's releases have been named after the various locations in which he grew up. 4180: The Prescription refers back to the Kimberly Court Projects on 4180 Cant Street and 4075: The Refill refers to the address of Pill’s aunt’s house. His next release, hosted by DJ Drama, should be a major turning point in his career as he's sure to be exposed to a wide fan base. Gangsta Grillz 1140: The Overdose is set to drop on June 1st.
