Mixtape Review: Gucci Mane – Movie 3: The Burrprint!
Just in time for winter, Gucci Mane Laflare blesses us with Movie 3: The Burrprint!, which is full of original content and hilarious interludes.
The Burrprint! closes out the “Movie Trilogy” that Gucci and DJ Drama had been working on, with the successful releases of Gangsta Grillz: The Movie and The Movie Part 2.
This particular mixtape received a ridiculous amount of buzz due to the title’s obvious reference to Jay-z’s The Blueprint 3.
Speaking of Hov, Gucci goes against MTV and says that Jay-z is not the greatest rapper alive during one of the mixtape’s skits. Another funny skit on the mixtape has Gucci talking about “niggas having to put his features on layaway” and how “Big Cat is fat and ugly,” ha!
Gucci Mane sets the “BURRR!” theme for the whole mixtape with the cartoon-esque beat produced by Shawty Redd for “Dope Boys.”
Gucci comments on Brisco, Yung Berg, and Young Jeezy in this opening track:
“I’m gettin my top fade cut,
Bouldercrest and Flatshores,
Wish a nigga would run up on me like I’m Brisco, Well Damn,
Yeaahh, Gucci Mane’s a loud one,
Try me like I’m Yung Burg,
And Imma make ya eyes cry,
Gucci like to drank,
And Gucci like to smoke,
And Gucci on the rise,
While you niggas goin broke, GUCCI!”
Gucci Mane takes a shot at Jeezy with those lyrics that mirror the hook on Young Jeezy’s “J.E.E.Z.Y.,” also produced by Shawty Redd. It’s no secret that Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane have a longstanding beef, and DJ Drama joins in when giving a shout out to Coach K, who used to manage Jeezy until the two parted ways.
With the next track on the mixtape, “Frowney Face,” Gucci plays off of his smash hit, “LOL Smiley Face.”
In the first verse, Gucci talks about people hating on him and OJ Da Juiceman getting shot. Not too many people know that the Juiceman got shot 8 times!
On the second verse he speaks down on Big Cat Records with:
“My former label didn’t treat me,
They just did what was expected,
I was self-sufficient before I was independently sellin records,
I know they kickin themselve in the ass,
I’m playing chess, they playin checkers,
And they know as well as I,
I eat they whole roster for breakfast.”
Even though “Frowney Face” is a dope track, it will obviously never get the mainstream radio play “LOL Smiley Face” received, but at least Gucci is helping us learn our emoticons!
My favorite track off the mixtape is the Nitti produced “Candy Lady.”
On “Candy Land,” Gucci spits colorful lyrics over the type of bass heavy track that his core fan base loves. “Candy Lady” is immediately followed on the mixtape by its remix, “Candy Land Remix.”
Other standout tracks on the mixtape are, “I Think I Want Her,” “Trap Going Crazy,” and “Excuse Me.” The hook on “Excuse Me” is hilarious, as Gucci equates his jewelry to ornaments!
The last artist to build a major buzz like the one Gucci is gaining off of mixtapes and features, was Lil Wayne. Even though Gucci’s buzz is nowhere near that of The Mixtape Weezy’s, Gucci Mane is still an artist to keep an eye on.
I’m excited to see how first week sales for Gucci’s next album, The State vs. Radric Davis, will pan out. Hopefully Atlantic Records doesn’t keep us waiting too long!!
