Mixtape Review: Waka Flocka Flame – Lebron Flocka James
Download – Lebron Flocka James (Mixtape)
A few weeks ago, Waka Flocka Flame and DJ Teknikz hit the streets with the mixtape, Lebron Flocka James.
If the title and album artwork don’t grab your attention, the features should, as the trap star managed to get the likes of Gorilla Zoe, Gucci Mane, OJ Da Juiceman, and Papoose on the tape.
“Let’s Do It” is Lebron Flocka James‘ lead single, and arguably the track that took Waka Flocka Flame’s career to the next level.
Check out the track that’s building buzz around Waka’s name and getting the Atlanta clubs crunk.
As the story goes, “Let’s Do It” came about after a bad drug deal put Waka out of $10,000 dollars. This transaction is reflected in the track’s opening verse:
“I fucked my money up,
Now I can’t re-up,
Ran up in his spot,
Just to get my stacks up,
Now I’m back on deck,
So shawty what the fuck you want?
Hear he talkin shit, but this aint what the fuck he want!”
A lot of Gucci Mane supporters are flocking to Waka’s hard lyrics and quick delivery, as he’s putting out the high energy street music they’ve come to love.
Waka’s extensive use of ad libs which mostly consist of his name, is another indication of Gucci’s influence. This technique has worked wonders for Gucci, and I’m willing to bet Lebron Flocka James won’t be the last mixtape laced with WAKA! ad libs.
Waka Flocka wastes no time getting into the street lyrics, as the first track, “1 Verse,” is a diss record to all the fake Gucci Manes who rock “middle of the mall jewelry,” ha!
Another standout track is “Head First.”
Waka Flocka Flame mentions his recent success in “Head First,” spitting:
“I’m known like J Nicks,
High like E.T.,
Spin like Emperor Searcy,
Has anybody heard of me?
I’m street like Greg Street, I kill like Gucch,
Excuse me what’s your name?
Call me Waka Flame boo.”
Big shout out to J Nicks and Emperor Searcy, two influential figures in the Atlanta hip hop community.
The tremendous buzz around Waka’s name led to the artist being booked for NYC’s annual CMJ festival. Unfortunately, he had a court appearance and was unable to make the trip.
That being said, the mere fact that Waka got his name on the CMJ list is quite impressive. The emerging artist also has backing from Gucci Mane’s 1017 Brick Squad and Warner Bros. Records.
Changing up the pace, Waka Flocka goes in on a smooth beat with “All I Got.”
Waka spits some personal lyrics on this track.
“Heavy rap from the heart,
Waka Flocka where to start,
I lost my little brother, we used to kick it like martial arts,
Daddy and my uncle died on the same day,
Ever since then, hard work no play,
Where the fuck I stay? Clayton Country Riverdale,
Middle finger to the twelve, give a fuck about jail.”
More personal tracks like this will help to expand Waka Flocka’s fan base.
Big shout out to Lex Luger who produced more than half of the mixtape!
I’m excited to see how the upcoming Waka Flocka Flame and Travis Porter mixtape, Streets R Us, pans out. The shit should be crazy and drops October 31st!

Waka Flocka Flame was born in Jamaica, Queens, to Debra Antney, Gucci Mane and Nicki Minaj’s ex-manager, but relocated to Riverdale, Georgia when he was 9 years old. Growing up, the rapper was given the nickname “Waka” by his cousin who thought that he sounded like Fozzie Bear from The Muppet Babies TV show. Years later, Waka’s mentor and CEO, Gucci Mane, evolved the nickname into Waka Flocka Flame.
