Stop Sleepin: Pac Div

Artist Profiles

If you’re familiar with West Coast hip hop, Pac Div is one of the groups you have in your playlist.

The guys have been making that “real hip hop” music ever since they formed back in 2005, and with their current buzz, it looks like things are starting to pay off in a major way.

The group, consisting of brothers, Like and Mibbs, as well as long time friend, Beyoung, just signed a deal with Universal Records to release their much anticipated Grown Kid Syndrome album.

While fans patiently await the debut album, Pac Div released Church League Champions, an inspirational mixtape for all the underdogs of the world.  The mixtape was quickly met with great reviews, as many critics proclaiming it one of the best releases of ‘09.

If you’re looking for that old school hip hop feel, check out the latest video off of Church League Champions, “Pac Div.”

Big shout out to the homies, Diz Gibran and Dom Kennedy, who made cameos in “Pac Div.”  Like steals the show, when he comments on how much success the group has been having lately, despite not changing the sound they started with, back in 2006:

“We making all this noise before the albums even pressed,
And niggas wait till now to be impressed,
In ‘06 we were sounding this fresh.”

It’s weird how the game works, but good music is good music, so Pac Div was bound to get attention one day.  Another awesome video off of Church League Champions is “The Mayor.”

The video for “The Mayor” compliments the track’s fun, laid back lyrics, which show LA’s carefree lifestyle.  The dudes simply decided to run for mayor one day, ha!

Bigg Mibbs’ hook sums up the song’s feel:

“Just another day out in sunny L.A.,
It’s dealers in the streets and coppers don’t play,
Got my 501 Jeans, my crew neck sweater, saggin in my pants cause I don’t know better,
In any weather, we stay the fliest,
Killers on my side In case you suckers wanna try us,
Numbers in my phone, I’m so player,
Feelin so good, I think I might run for mayor.”

My favorite track off of Church League Champions is “For You,” where the group talks about their rise to fame.

Some of the mixtape’s best lines are spit on this track, such as:

“Its been a long time,
Feel like a slow grind,
But sure enough the labels stumbled on this gold mine,
Was either that or sit up in that unemployed line,
Now we on and everybody want a joy ride,
Damnn homie, you told me don’t rhyme,
You see a nigga in a magazine, you co-sign.”

The song gets even better as the group talks about getting back at all the people who gave them shit.

If you’re interested in checking out some of Pac Div’s early music that helped them build their online buzz and lead to their record deal, download their Sealed For Freshness: Blend Tape, and check out the following videos.

“F.A.T. Boys ‘08″ is the video that execs at Universal saw before they decided to sign Pac Div.

Pretty sick video for an unsigned group!

The guys give us a glimpse into their social life with “Women Problems.”

Those are some unfortunate situations, ha.

When Pac Div’s debut album, Grown Kid Syndrome, drops, people are going to realize that this group is here to stay.  I can’t wait to see how big the group becomes!
