Gucci Mane – Lemonade
This is the hottest song Gucci has released in a minute, and Bangladesh (”A Milli,” “What’s Your Fantasy,” “Diva,” “Bossy”) produced the beat, so you already know it’s a banger.
The track follows the hilarious theme of Gucci Mane having lemon-colored everything: ice, clothes, cars, women, etc.
He speaks about women with “I like them Georgia peaches/ But you look more like a lemon/ These sour apple, bitter bitches/ I’m not fuckin with ‘em.” He touches on syppin the barre with “I’m moving slow cause codeine syrup’s in my lemonade.” And my favorite one liner from the track is, “Coward ass nigga yellow/ Strip, you a yellow back/ AK hit ya dog, and you can’t bring old yellow back.”
The hilarious verses are separated by a haunting child-like voice talking about lemons in the hook, which makes the song addictive.
Gucci goes on a roll with the yellow references in the second verse:
“Cocaine white exterior,
Interior lemonette,
Yellow with the off-white trim,
And I call that the supper drank,
Yellow diamond pinky ring,
Call that there the lemon rock,
Jewelry box a lemon bag,
My ear ring size an apricot,
Yea I smoke that strong a lot,
Yea I need some what ya got?
Half a pound of lemon kush,
Call that pack the lemon drop,
Canary yellow lemon watch,
Big Bird yellow drop,
Yellow polo,polo strippers,
White and yellow polo socks.”
Those are the best lines about yellow stuff I’ve ever heard, ha!
The Clipse – Doorman
“Doorman” joins “I’m Good” as yet another D-boy anthem placed on The Clipse’s upcoming album, Til The Casket Drops.
The video is entertaining as it has a ton of females around Malice and Pusha T, shows them cooking crack, and flashes images of money, weapons, and drugs across the screen. It’s no “Trap Goin Ham,” but a good attempt.
Malice sums up the track’s feel with:
“My life’s too real to be a PSA,
The million in the ceiling’s for a rainy day,
I cut it, then whip her like she Annie Mae,
Praise God, I escaped by his amazing grace,
Nahh, never was I saving face,
Some family ties are impossible to break,
The all mighty judge, only he can save me,
Don’t cry for us now, just pray for our babies.”
That line about Annie Mae is dope.
Malice’s brother, Pusha T, spits a line that I hear quoted all the time: “If the good die young, then the greats go to jail.”
Til The Casket Drops hits the streets December 8th, and from the look of things it’s going to be some of the group’s best work.
Travis Porter – Go Shorty Go
Travis Porter continuously makes great party music, and this weekend they will be filming a video for their latest club hit, “Go Shorty Go.”
Travis Porter dedicates the smooth track to the grown women in the club, singing:
“I was walkin through the crowd and I seen her with her team,
I tapped her on the shoulder and said girl I like them jeans,
I told her, go shorty shorty go, shorty shorty go, gooooo,
Go shorty shorty go, shorty shorty go,
She was dancing like a stripper, so I had to throw some ones,
She wink’d her eye at me, and said it’s time to have some fun,
I told her, go shorty shorty go, shorty shorty go, gooooo,
Go shorty shorty go, shorty shorty go.”
The boys from Travis Porter have been asking fans to submit “booty shaking videos” for the track, but the real video will be shot Sunday at Obsessions in Atlanta.

BlakRoc – Ain’t Nothing Like You
BlakRoc is a mash between the blues rock band, The Black Keys, and various hip hop artists. The group was put together by Dame Dash and it sounds like he knows what he’s doing, as the album has a sick list of guest appearances from Raekwon, Jim Jones, Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, Ludacris, Q-Tip, and a verse from Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
“Ain’t Nothing Like You” features vocals from guitarist Dan Auerbach, Mos Def, as well as two verses from Jim Jones, and is the first single off the self titled album set to drop on November 27th.
Jim Jones goes in over the soulful guitar riff with:
“They told me pain only shows you where you going,
You get to laughter and that shows you where you been..
Where we from success, one in a million,
We thought success was getting money in front the building,
End of the summer we were counting up the killings,
Like they killed baby boy trying to run up in the building.”
His lyrics always connect with the hood.

Travis Porter, made up of Quez, Strap, and Ali, announced their record deal with Jive on November 29th. Prior to their major deal, the group had made themselves the hottest independent rap group in the country with over forty five million Youtube views, multiple singles reaching the Billboard charts, concerts overseas, and music videos in rotation on MTV Jams.
It'll be interesting to see what the boys do while under the major label umbrella, as they've already accomplished more than a number of artists who are signed!
