Interview: Outasight (1/28/10)

By Mike Boyd - Interviews

One of the newest additions to the Warner Bros./Asylum Records roster is, New York’s own, Outasight, who’s unique sound has been creating quite the buzz within hip hop circles.

On December 15th, Outasight teamed up with LRG to release the impressive Further LP as a free download.  The project consists of feel good, genre blending music.

Having said that, there’s no denying Outasight’s impressive rapping ability, which will surprise listeners and take his career to the next level.

The cohesiveness that was achieved on the 14 track LP is quite impressive, especially considering the production came from six different sources.

Also, naming the final track “The Introduction” gives the project a better flow than most, as it often leaves me wanting to give the LP another listen.  This track brings us full circle since the whole album was made to introduce Outasight as an artist.

Before his second show of the night, Outasight met up with HipHopAtLunch.com to touch on his Further project with LRG, the making of the “Catch Me If You Can” video, seeing A Tribe Called Quest in concert, and the upcoming EP for iTunes.

Shortly after the interview, Outasight checked the score of the Knicks game and was glad to see his team had won.  I hope they can keep the winning streak going!

It’s too bad he wasn’t at The Knitting Factory last week, as I heard A Tribe Called Quest put on quite the show.  Here’s some of the footage that’s been floating around the web from that night.  It was cool, however, to hear him reminisce over the Tribe show that he was able to attend a few years back!

Check out the creative trailer put together by Greg the Dude for Outasight’s next single, “Catch Me If You Can.”

I can’t wait to see the finished product, as there’s definitely going to be an interesting storyline to go along with that video!  After our interview, Outasight performed a number of tracks off Further, including “Catch Me If You Can.”

Here’s footage from Tuesday night’s show:

Outasight – “Don’t Say Anything”

Outasight started off his set with my favorite track from Further, “Don’t Say Anything.”

His energetic performance, which took him into the crowd at one point, helped set the tone for his entire set.  It was pretty funny seeing him pose from time to time in front of the fans taking photos and video, ha!

Outasight – “Everyone Gets Laid”

“Everyone Gets Laid” is an ode to the over-worked, everyday man, who’s looking to have a great night.  The track is definitely a fan favorite and had members of the crowd singing along with lines such as:  ”Um I think we all need a shot/  Patron sounds good, cuervo’s what I got.”

It’s very fitting that the song immediately following “Everyone Gets Laid” on Further is “The Walk of Shame,” a funny track where Outasight showcases his storytelling ability.

Outasight – “Brand New Day”

Outasight finished the night with a performance of the soulful “Brand New Day,” produced by 6th Sense.

Keep an eye out for Mick Boogie’s Fashion Week project and Outasight’s multi-media EP, which should both be hitting the web soon.  Also, if you live in the Northeast, get ready because Outasight just released some tour dates!
