Spree Wilson rocked his performance Saturday night at Santos, fresh off a flight back from Atlanta.
The venue was full of hip hop heads who took kindly to the artist’s unique set which featured Spree wailing on the guitar as often as dropping a sick verse.
Outside of putting on great live shows, Spree has been hard at work since our last interview, and will have some major announcements coming your way soon!
One of the most impressive things Spree has been able to accomplish during his short time in New York has been gaining a co-sign from hip hop legend, Q-Tip.
If you’re not familiar with Spree Wilson’s sound, check out the video for his single, “Word,” produced by No I.D.
It looks like that video was a lot of fun to make, and had me laughing at Spree’s funny faces and dance moves! Aside from being funny, it also does a great job of showcasing his creativity and impressive flow.
HipHopAtLunch.com met up with Spree Wilson to discuss his recent reemergence on Twitter, other projects his beats will be featured on, and his own upcoming album, The Beauty of Chaos.
It was so cold during this interview that I thought my fingers were going to fall off, ha!
As we covered in the interview, Spree Wilson is now back on Twitter. If you used to follow him, now’s your chance to re-connect: @SpreeWilson.
As far as production goes, Spree’s already worked with artists such as Jazmine Sullivan, Jenifer Hudson, Joell Ortiz, and Cee-Lo Green. I look forward to hearing his work with Hollyweerd, Bosco, and Novel, and hopefully he gets to work on Estelle, Donnis, and Pill’s upcoming projects, as they all promise to be impressive releases.
Spree’s set was kept short due to Saturday night’s long bill of performers, including Tiron, Don Will, Sene, and Homeboy Sandman. We did, however, get to enjoy both “Bring Me Down” and “Pick You Apart” off his unreleased The Beauty of Chaos album, and “Dreamworld” off the well received Evil Angel EP.
Spree Wilson – “Bring Me Down.”
It’s not easy to play the guitar in front of a NYC hip hop crowd and receive the type of response Spree gets at the end of “Bring Me Down.”
Here’s live footage of “Pick You Apart” and ”Dreamworld,” which also feature guitar solos. My favorite part of these videos comes at the end of “Dreamworld,” when Spree lays down in the middle of the crowd and a girl screams “That’s some Atlanta shit right there!”
If you’re in LA, be sure to make your way over to the Leaders of the New Cool event on January 26th. It will feature performances from Diz Gibran, El Prez, Spree Wilson, TiRon, Grip Plyaz, Hollyweerd, Mikkey Halsted, and LEP Bogus Boys!
