First it was JT Money who had the hip hop community chanting “Who Dat” back in 1999, then Young Jeezy and Shawty Redd got people through the Recession with their version of “Who Dat,” and most recently the New Orleans Saints made the catch phrase their go to chant, resulting in a Superbowl championship.

Now J.Cole brings yet another meaning to the popular term, with the release of his street single, “Who Dat,” off of the upcoming Cole World album.  The North Carolina emcee spits the impressive lines which we’ve now come to expect, and is especially memorable in the second verse:

“The Mind state of a winner,
When you thinkin bout summertime, I’m thinkin bout the winter,
When you thinkin bout breakfast, I’m heatin up my dinner,
I was plottin this moment back when ya’ll was ridin spinners,
Now I’m a menace,
God as my witness,
With this pen I’m insane, yup,
Hungry like a nigga who ain’t got the taste of fame yet,
Clown told me “ain’t you Roc? well where the fuck yo chain at?”
Guess it’s somethin like your girl nigga, it aint came yet,
The man make the chain chain dont make the man,
How many niggas do we know with hella ice but yet they lame?
The cloth from which we came me and them is not the same,
It’s like we all headed to spain, they took the boat i took the plane, dang,
That boy sick, now hoes on his joystick,
Heatin up like may weather dog, I’m on that Floyd shyt,
Boy stick, to your day job,
Said you was hot but they lied,
Is that ya girl? Well I just G’d her, no A-rod.”

That line about J.Cole plotting his rap takeover while everyone else was ridin’ spinners is hilarious!  Although “Who Dat” is great for the streets and building buzz, the next J.Cole release needs to be something aimed at taking over the radio.

Eminem – “Despicable”

Before dropping “Not Afraid,” the first single off of the upcoming Recovery album, Eminem decided to give his fans a gift by going in over the instrumentals to Drake’s “Over” and Lloyd Bank’s “Beamer, Benz, Or Bentley.”  This freestyle comes on the heals of the impressive guest verse that the Detroit emcee dropped earlier this week on B.o.B.’s debut album.

Here’s an excerpt from “Despicable,” where Slim Shady reaffirms his spot amongst the top of the rap game:

“Like a leaf stuck in a vacuum,
Ya’ll ain’t nothin’ but a whole lot of suckin’ goin’ on in rap,
yeah but I’m home,
Bad to the bone,
Back in the zone,
Let him alone,
You don’t wanna go aiggin’ him on,
It’ll never be my chair that you on,
crown so tight that it cuts off circulation to the brain, no oxygen,
other-words there’s no heir to the throne,
When I die so does hip hop,
Hitchcock coulda shit bitch ass Do got a zip locked in a bag,
you fags aint been able to fade me since Kid Rock had a high top,
keep blogging while I mind boggling and I zone like I’m in the twilight, dog,
Get off my bone this is my mic dog nah nit I like hogging it,
flow so wet I’mma take this beat tobogganing.”

I hope Eminem comes this hard on Recovery.

After hearing J.Cole’s self-produced track, “Lights Please,” Jay-z signed the North Carolina artist to his Roc Nation label. This record deal put a lot of attention on the young emcee, who quickly released one of 2009’s best projects in The Warm Up mixtape. Now, unlike a number of popular southern hip hop artists who release material regularly to stay relevant, J.Cole has managed to keep his buzz alive for a little over a year since releasing that tape. His impressive lyricism even landed him a guest spot on Jay-z’s The Blueprint 3 album, opening the door to nation-wide exposure. J.Cole’s debut album is set to be released in late 2010.
