Interview: DJ Holiday – (8/30/10)

In 2009, DJ Holiday was named MTV’s breakthrough mixtape DJ of the year, after hosting a number of influential tapes including Gucci Mane’s post-jail Writting On The Wall and Nicki Minaj’s break-through Beam Me Up Scotty.

This year, Holiday has kept his buzz alive with stand-out projects such as Alley Boy’s Definition of Fuck Shit and most recently Gucci Mane’s Jewelry Selection.

DJ Holiday met up with HipHopAtLunch.com to discuss his upcoming projects including Waka Flocka’s Flockaveli album, Alley Boy’s Definition of Fuck Shit 2, Diamond’s Cocaine Waitress, a 1017 Brick Squad mixtape, and a rumored project with the based god, Lil B.  He also spoke to us about the upcoming Gucci Mane documentary DVD, and his own debut album, featuring a street single with Waka, Yo Gotti, and Pill.

Shout out to Soulja Boy for putting the idea of a Lil B mixtape into DJ Holiday’s head.  The solo member of The Pack has an insanely dedicated following and crazy buzz around both his music and cookin’ dance.  Hosting a Lil B mixtape would be a great move for any DJ aiming to break new artists!

Gucci Mane – “Wasted” (Live)

A lot of southern rap shows draw energy from the DJ, who also serves as a hype man while screaming out adlibs.  DJ Holiday added a lot to Gucci’s performance by doing just that.  Holiday can also be found talking over mixtape tracks with hilarious sayings such as, “Five bitches that don’t speak no English, we do that!”

Here’s the trailer to DJ Holiday and Waka Flocka Flame’s Flockaveli project, which is set to be released as an album on September 21st.

Having a few slowed down, reflective tracks like this one on Waka’s debut album will definitely help the emerging artist turn heads and gain new fans.  It’ll also prove as a great opportunity to help introduce the world to Lex Luger’s smoother sound.

Raw Report’s 60 Day Documentary with Gucci Mane dropped today.  You can stream the documentary below and purchase a copy here.  The project has a lot of behind-the-scenes footage of Gucci performing fan favorites such as “I Think I Love Her,” as well as commentary from the people in Gucci’s close circle.  After the success of Lil Wayne’s The Carter Documentary, a similar video about Gucci Mane’s work ethic was inevitable.
