Interview: Big Sean (10/28/10)

Big Sean’s buzz is at an all time high coming into the release of the twenty-two-year-old emcee’s debut album, Finally Famous.  Part of the Detroit artist’s current hype can be attributed to his impressive Finally Famous Vol. 3 project which dropped at the end of August and was hosted by DJ Don Cannon.

Our previous interview with Sean came after he tore down the XXL freshman showcase in April, and this time around we spoke a couple days after a sold out show at New York’s SOBs.

Earlier today, Big Sean sat down with HipHopAtLunch to speak on his new video for “Final Hour,” the G.O.O.D. Music BET Cypher, an upcoming video for “Too Fake” featuring Chiddy Bang, Sean’s new project in the works with Mike Posner, and the Detroit emcee’s Bigtionary.

Those additive adlibs on Sean’s Bigtionary are awesome.  For example, the word Dolphin meaning a thirsty hoe is just hilarious!

It was also fun to see Big Sean rapping along with Travis Porter’s “Make It Rain” at the end of the video.  Travis Porter is definitely blowing up and Wale just gave the “Make It Rain” track a DMV feel with his freestyle last night.  Hopefully, we get to hear the Travis Porter and Big Sean collaboration soon, as I’m sure it’ll be interesting!  Also, if you’re unfamiliar with Machine Gun Kelly’s music, I suggest you check him out ASAP.  Like Sean said, MGK is “definitely up and coming.”

Big Sean – “Too Fake” (Featuring Chiddy Bang)

Chiddy Bang provided the beat and third verse for Big Sean’s “Too Fake,” which samples Hockey’s single of the same name.  Here’s Sean’s second verse that goes back and forth between Sean’s voice and that of his haters:

“Yea I know Sean, I swear that nigga ain’t shit,
Known him for forever, and he ain’t on the same shit,
It breaks my heart when all the kids be yellin,
‘You the mane big,’
He ain’t no hometown hero, he on that Lebron James shit,
Man I tell em, ‘Suck my dick then choke on a nut,’
Cause when they see me it’s ‘Oh Big what’s up?’
Man for the team and family regime,

That line about not fucking with the haters from day one reminded me of Yo Gotti’s “Touchdown.”  Hopefully the video for “Too Fake” is as creative as some of Sean and Chiddy’s past visuals!

Big Sean – “Memories” (Produced By Key Wane)

Here’s Sean’s impressive second verse to the Key Wane-produced “Memories.”

There’s a lot of lines to both quote and reflect on in there.
