Interview: Nikkiya speaks on her SpeakHer album, working with Will Power, Yelawolf, Tech N9ne & more

Screen shot 2011-08-11 at 11.52.12 AMNikkiya has been making a name for herself with a number of impressive collaborations that include Yelawolf’s “Speak Her Sex,” Wiz Khalifa’s “Middle Of You,” and two tracks off of Tech N9ne’s latest album: “Delusional” and “Promiseland.”

Now, the South Carolina artist is gearing up to release her debut project, SpeakHer, on August 15th.  To bring a high level of cohesiveness to SpeakHer, Will Power of Supahot Beats, who was just named one of Complex Magazine’s 15 new producers to watch, will be producing every song on the free LP.

While in NYC for a showcase at The Fader, Nikkiya spoke to HipHopAtLunch about her upcoming SpeakHer album, the meaning behind a few of the standout tracks, working with Will Power, Yelawolf, Tech N9ne and more.

The song Nikkiya performed at the beginning of the above video is “Y.O.Y.”

Yelawolf – “Speak Her Sex” (Prod. By Will Power)

“Speak Her Sex” was a standout track from Yelawolf’s break through mixtape, Trunk Muzik. Another project with strong influence from Will Power, who produced 9 of the 12 tracks.  Yelawolf and Nikkiya go back and forth on this song’s chorus, seen below.

“Nikkiya: Every night my little box, these speakers sexin me,
Yelawolf: Just hop in the box let the drop move you around,
Nikkiya: Hoppin out them juices flow like rivers on my sheets,
Yelawolf: So much knock in it, liftin you straight off the ground,
