Bone’s “Home Gurl” has already enjoyed a great deal of success due to its official video and radio play, and now Rick Ross and Bun B have jumped onto the remix in hopes of taking the song even further!

All three of these artists keep the track’s club feel, but not to no one’s surprise, Bun B steals the show.  Here’s an excerpt from his verse:

“Now it was once said by a girl who couldn’t quit,
Bun B please can I have another hit,
The OG told her, girl I don’t give a shit,
Better get down on you’re knees and swallow don’t spit,
She let my dick Brees like a Saint player, who dat?
I’ll take your chick from ya, think I can’t come and do that?
Ask your bopper, I’m a trending topic on Twitter,
If I see ya and I want ya I’mma damn sure get ya,
Big Bun B I got a dick like a cobra,
Big black mamba it’ll bite ya all over,
I guarantee your girl won’t refuse it.”

I like Bun B’s references to N.W.A.’s “Dope Man,” as well as the New Orleans Saints at the beginning of his verse.  The hip hop legend has been killing everything in his path as of late, and if you missed his No Mixtape project, I suggest you download it now!

Laws – “Look Easy” (Featuring Diz Gibran)

“Looks Easy” featuring, Diz Gibran, is the first track to leak off of Laws’ upcoming Overtime, the No-DJ version of 4:57.  The new project will contain bonus songs not included on the DJ Don Cannon mixtape, as well as a handful of new features.

Here’s a quick excerpt from Laws’ first verse:

“It was something like a zillion to one when I crept up, dog,
You ain’t never seen me sweat those odds,
I’m still frosted.
Too bad I’m never off beat,
You’ll never see it, like a du-rag at the Lacrosse meet,
They cross me, but see they forgot to cross they i’s,
They chicks brain me out, now they look lobotomized.”

That line about getting brain until the girl looks lobotomized is pretty hilarious!

These two emcees are definitely artists to watch in 2010.

Named after the recent Survival Skills album, the mixtape features nineteen of the game’s most talented emerging artists remaking classic records by the two hip hop legends.

Since the project is a modest ten tracks long, I suggest you find the time to give it a quick listen.  I applaud the creative concept and quality of the music put forth.

I’m going to highlight a few of the standout tracks below:

Sha Stimuli, Promise, J.A.M.E.S. Watts, Fashawn – “MC’s Act Like They Don’t Know Remix”

Sha Stimuli kills the first verse of “MC’s Act Like They Don’t Know.”

“If you don’t know me by now I doubt you’ll ever know me,
I’m not on Atlantic, I ain’t signed to Sony,
I’m not even sure how many labels are left,
But I’m labeled the booth assassin while the masses have slept…
Your flow ain’t as half as tight as like the way ya’ll dress.
And my knowledge reigns supreme, no I ain’t KRS.”

I know a lot of people are going to love that line about these new rappers having better style than rapping ability, ha!  Also, the comment about not knowing how many labels are left is pretty great, as it seems they’ve been having layoffs every couple of weeks!

Here’s KRS-One’s original track, which sampled Clifford Brown’s “Yesterdays.”

Torae & Skyzoo – “Talk Shit Remix”

Torae and Skyzoo put forth two of the best verses off the entire project with this track. If you’re still sleepin on these impressive Duck Down emcees, hopefully “Talk Shit Remix” will wake you up!

Here’s an excerpt from Torae’s verse:

“Killin every nigga in ciphers,
Couple dudes got more buzz, but none of ‘em nicer.
If you feel you can fuck with it, fuck it then bet your budget,
Nigga’s pen is pathetic, promise I prove it in public, youngin,
My family is OG status,
Shittin on who mattered when you was shittin in pampers.
And that’s an understatement,
What better label for the most underrated, than one that started under the pavement?
For this engagement, get your skullies on,
Timberlands, Champion hoodies, let’s get the gully on.
I’m label mates with apes, legends, and greats,
Duck Down’s what it is and ya’ll shit what it ain’t.”

Those first lines about being better than the dudes with buzz had me hooked.  The following excerpt is from Skyzoo’s verse that sums up his hip hop success:

“I became the talk of the city,
Whether blogs or the building,
From the server to the staircase, and all of that within it,
I’ve been saying this forever, so all of it’s a given,
The mixtapes was free throws, chalk it up to scrimmage.”

Here’s Buckshot’s original track which samples Miles Davis’ “Bitches Brew.”

Cause, The Kid Daytona, & Chaundon – “South Bronx Remix”

I know The Kid Daytona had a great time goin in over this South Bronx anthem!  Here’s an excerpt from his verse:

“I was raised up the block from the house that Ruth built,
Raised off hip hop, shouts to Kool Herc, still,
Wonder how it used to feel,
To walk through the streets, with a boom box bumpin’ BDP.”

With lines like those, Cause, The Kid Daytona, and Chaundon capture the feelings of current Bronx natives who reminiscence over the borough’s hip hop dominance.

Having spent sometime working a corporate job, as well as exploring opportunities in both skateboarding and fashion, this Los Angeles emcee is now focusing wholly on his music.

HipHopAtLunch.com was lucky enough to meet up with Diz while he was in New York to rock the crowd at SOB’s. We used this opportunity to ask the emcee about his past and to get a better glimpse into his personality.

However, before we jump into the interview, take a quick listen to one of Diz’s freestyles so you know exactly what we’re dealing with:

Diz Gibran uses his freestyles to speak about real life experiences, and as the following lines show, this style of rapping works very well:

“The streets treating me like a celebrity now,
Both in fashion and rap they respecting the style…
Walking by faith but still controlling my destiny,
Changing what I can, all else I just let it be…
The streets sing along to my melody,
cats imitate the style, but the talent’s sold separately,
they can never be Diz.”

Diz Gibran’s latest mixtape, which he spoke about in the interview, was completely produced by Queens producer Moonshine, and distributed by hip hop clothing company Crooks & Castles.  This one producer-one Emcee method is very rarely done in today’s hip hop world, but significantly increases the work’s cohesiveness.  Soon You’ll Understand is a great example of what a full work of art can sound like from start to finish.

A standout track on the mixtape is “Truly Yours”

Together with BJ The Chicago Kid, Diz uses this track to reminisce on growing up and falling in love with hip hop.  He also manages to work in some clever references to Crooks & Castles:

“I’m on the brink all I need is a push,
on my way to the castles peace to the crooks…
learned there’s no way to be king without the rooks,
and what it took is much more than you see,
In every form, this is me yours truly.”

As one of the leaders of the West Coast’s new hip hop movement, Diz Gibran is definitely an artist to keep an eye on.
