“My Downfall” didn’t make Joe Budden’s upcoming album, The Great Escape, due to sample clearance problems.

Joe uses this track to speak on his fans, the blogs, Slaughterhouse, getting punched in the face, and his ex, Tahiry.  I know the “internet soldiers” have had this one on repeat since it dropped last week.

Here’s his verse about Tahiry and why they broke up:

If I ain’t have a soul, a nigga always had you,
Pardon duke, but I got to speak candidly,
How the fuck could you abandon me?
With five years of blood, sweat, and tears,
But there was obviously a disconnect,

It’s cool to get an inside look at their break up, but I hope he didn’t really “hit her like a man.”

The Kid Daytona – Inspire

The latest leak off 6th Sense’s upcoming project, It’s A 6th Sense Mixtape Yo​!​! Volume 2 & 3, is “Inspire” by The Kid Daytona.  Daytona uses this track to speak on his rise in the game.

Here’s an excerpt:

“I’ve been playing around with skill,
Eventually good luck happened,
I quit playing around for real,
Sorta like when Mike met Phil Jackson, an oasis,
I took greatness, and embraced it,
Hit the pavement shit ain’t been the same since.
They say I’m changing, nah bitch I’m morphin,
Went to bed amazing, woke up awesome,
I had dedication, niggas was like you ain’t on yet?
(Pssst you’ll never make it.)”

I like that line about people telling The Kid Daytona that he’d never make it.  These are the same haters that he refers to in the hook:

“I can’t wait to go,
And show grandma I made it yo,
Shit on all the niggas that hated though,
Just to see the look on they faces, ohh,
This is what you call inspirational,
This is what you call inspirational,
Speaking out for a generation,
Look at me, I’m inspiration.”

Bun B – Pants on The Ground

It was just a matter of time before a hip hop artist worked the popular phrase “Pants on the Ground” into a song.  I’m just happy that Bun B and Double O, from Kidz In The Hall, had the first go.

Bun uses this track to stunt, as he spits rhymes about his spending habits, cars, and clothes.

Here’s an excerpt:

“You know what we on, you know how we do,
We ridin G5, you ain’t seen a G2,
My dash digital like R2D2,
Waitin on a ride mane? I wouldn’t want to be you.”

That R2D2 line is pretty hilarious!

The “Pants On The Ground Freestyle” served as a bonus track off No Mixtape, which dropped this morning.

Nicki Minaj tells Wale and Joe Budden that she has 250k followers because she shows love and respect for everyone on twitter.  You have to spend time showing people you care!

“D.O.A.” and “Run This Town” have confirmed my suspicions that The Blueprint 3 will be the best album of 2009.  Even though Jay’s first official single doesn’t give me chills or change the face of hip hop like “D.O.A.” did, “Run This Town” still manages to be a well put together club banger that offers more than just a good beat with a catchy hook.

And boy does it have a catchy hook!  This song will have drunk girls in the club singing off key for months to come…Rihanna sings the hook (with no autotune) and creates her best work since “Live Your Life.”

Not to much surprise, Jay-z flows over this Kanye beat like a boss…talking about how he runs Hip Hop, yet keeping his verses simple and to the point.  Jay-z keeps his cool “black on black” attitude alive with this single. I hope the album artwork for The Blueprint 3 is beyond sick, because this album will be an instant classic.

The standout verse on the track was provided by Kanye West, who stole the show on this one by putting forth the best lyrical effort he has done in a minute.  Rapping over the track that No I.D. helped him produce, Kanye goes hard as if he has something to prove and coincidentally takes this song from club banger to street anthem:

“Its crazy how you can go from being Joe Blow, To everybody on your dick, no homo, I bought my whole family whips, no volvo’s, Next time I’m in Church please no photos, Police escorts, everybody passports, This the life that everybody ask for, This the fast life we are on a crash course, What you think I rap for…to push a fucking Rav 4? But I know that if I stay stunting, All these girls only gone want one thing, I can spend my whole life good will hunting, Only good gone come is its good when I’m cumming.”

Trey Songz – Lol Smiley Face

This Fisha & Price produced single from Trey Songz has an undeniably childish and carefree feel to it that makes it ridiculously catchy & hilarious!  As you may have guessed from the title, this song is an ode to flirtatious messaging with abbreviations and emoticons being sent over Twitter, Text messaging, Myspace, and AIM. Trey Songz manages to grab two of the South’s most popular and hilarious artists, Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy, for this track.

While Gucci Mane delivers an average verse with killer adlibs strategically placed thoughout the entire track, Soulja Boy manages to ride the beat like this song was made specifically for him. When one first hears this song they may even think this is Soulja Boy’s song seeing as how well it fits the internet phenom’s style.  (Gucci and Trey might have sat down for a minute to write their verses, but I’m sure all Soulja Boy did was recount an average day in his goofy life)

The standout verse on the song belongs to Trey Songz who also sings the catchy hook which without a doubt will get stuck in your head. (I actually find myself saying “Lol Smiley Face” in normal conversations without even thinking about it) BTW, is it just me or does Trey’s flow and lyrics remind you of R. Kelly:

“Shorty called my phone, I was busy, I was busy, Cruisin in that Benz round the city, round the city, Then I felt my phone buzz, I know that she like thugs, I’m a bad boy like Diddy, take that, Then she sent the text, that read, Baby I’m at home, Then she sent another one that says she’s all alone, So I text her a smiley face and said lets do the grown, She said lol, boy you crazy, come on, Then she said actually, You aint gotta ask me, Sent that lil face with the tongue cuz I’m nasty, I’m on my way, Girl I can’t wait, twitter me a picture, Let me see that okay.”

The key to this song’s success is Trey songz.  Since this is Trey’s song featuring Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy (and not the other way around), it has had almost no trouble making its way into the playlists of DJs and hip hop fans who would normally not blare a Gucci Mane or Soulja Boy song even if you paid them!  Also, Trey Songz’ popularity is sky rocketing as of late due to his upcoming album and his increased sex appeal with the ladies… That being said, he has enough buzz and support to take this ridiculous song laced with stoopid fruity lyrics curtisy of Gucci Mane & Soulja Boy to the top of the radio request line all over the country!

Slaughterhouse – The one

“The One” is an awesome song with an even better video directed by Rik Cordero.  This radio friendly single features a beat that blends hip hop and rock with lyrics that aim to do the same.

Despite Slaughterhouse being arguably the most lyrically talented new group in hip hop, they did not seem to put much effort into creating a lyrically powerful single.  Crooked I’s verse was by far the best, and I wish that Joell Ortiz had been given his own verse to work with instead of Royce Da 5’9’’.

Royce has a good flow on the track and does a good job incorporating rock and roll names into his verse, but besides that he doesn’t say much.  Joe Budden and Joell Ortiz tag team a verse that ends up being lyrically worse than what either of them could have come up with on there own.

The best verse on the track belongs to Crooked I who goes in on the song’s theme  and does a great  job of maintaining a strong hip hop presence while using rock and roll metaphors over a rap/rock beat:

“I’m sexing a les’, And her best friend in bed, I love these freak women, Something in my demin need a KISS, call it Gene Simmons, They wanna ban me like Marlyn Manson, For all the whores in my Baltimore, Maryland mansion, I’m the one who wants to Spear Brittany, Give pink some black put it near her kidneys, here kitty, I’m the one who always cause an affair, So every time your bitch burp, you smell my balls in the air.”

The song’s hook is awesome, the beat is awesome, and the 4 rappers’ flows are awesome making this a hit song that should receive a lot of radio play.  It is just a shame that Slaughterhouse didn’t come harder with their lyrics.

Big Kuntry King – Beem Beem Beem

This chest thumping, swag dripping record is full of southern energy, and without a doubt the hottest song I have heard from Big Kuntry King since “Yeah.”  Big Kuntry also does an outstanding job describing the meaning behind the title of his song, “Beem Beem Beem,” at the begging of the video. ( Explaining to the whole world what Beem Beem Beem, Bow Bow Bow means is no easy task)  Thank you Big Kuntry for giving the world more hilarious southern adlibs!

Even though the song’s hook is beyond hilarious, not everything about this song is a joke.  Big Kuntry’s lyrics range from making me have a thizz face to causing me to literally laugh out loud.  The lyrics that are going to get this song plays & respect in the south are:

“On the phone booking shows, Yes it costs a half a bird, Spread my wings in the sky, shit on niggas like a bird, You Spent 30 on ya chain, I spent the same on a coat, You spent 40 on ya car, I spent that in a house note, Niggas want to sound like me, I guess that’s why they steal my quotes, Look at me, Your bitch is choosin’, I Never had to steal a hoe.”

BEEM BEEM BEEM, BOW BOW BOW, AYE AYE AYE OK, WELL DAMN, BURR!  Long live southern futuristic stooped fruity swag music!
