Joell penned an impressive verse, or should I say letter, over Miguel and J.Cole’s hit, “All I Want Is You.”  The brooklyn emcee’s label needs to get him more R&B hooks, like the one heard above.  They also need to stop releasing tracks like “Drunk.”

Playboy Tre got Joell Ortiz to go in over this classic Isley Brothers sample off of Tre’s upcoming project, The Last Call.

Here’s Playboy Tre’s first verse on being stuck in a bad situation:

Joell Ortiz has consistently been going in over popular instrumentals for months now, and never once has he disappointed.  ”Who Dat” has the Brooklyn emcee laying down his bars over J.Cole’s first single.

Here’s a quick excerpt:

“I’m on fire, the temperature in Hell’s lovely,
I don’t miss a beat like the Energizer Cell Bunny,
Tongue numb cause I spit Crack,
It’s clothing stores between me and these rappers, a big Gap,
So far ahead that I can sit back,
Cause when that starting pistol bark these niggas start, I’m on my fifth lap.”

That line about spitting Crack till his tongue goes numb had me rewinding the track.

If you haven’t heard the original “Roger That,” you’re missing out on one of Nicki Minaj’s best verses to date.  Having said that, Joell flows over the radio friendly track as if it was made for him, with lines such as:

“You niggas is washed up,
Walking, talkin, laundry mats,
Ladies see me in the street, damn near have a heart attack,
Find me right behind her, tryin to rip apart her back,
A nice Jessica Rabbit and she don’t care where Roger at…
I do it how I do it, and how I do it is beautiful,
Any beat that feels alive, I give it a funeral.”

Like the last line of that quote states, may these beats rest in peace.

J.Cole – Ignorant Shit (Freestyle)

Earlier this week, J.Cole visited Tampa’s Wild 94.1FM, and released this sick freestyle over Hov’s “Ignorant Shit.”  The North Carolina emcee’s laid back flow always makes the verbal onslaught seem effortless.

Here’s a quick excerpt:

“Something like a pimp cause I’m still with the cane,
A little drug dealing reference, what I can’t try?
These niggas out here lying, why can’t I..
Don’t let the cover fool you man, I ain’t no freshman,
In my own class man, I write my own passes,
I hear the shots fired, yea I see the stones casted,
Look, my shit is already fire, don’t gas it,
Niggas hear my album, say it sound like a classic,
Niggas say your album might not even see the plastic.”

Those first few lines about other rappers fabricating their lyrics had me hitting repeat!

Joell Ortiz – Lemonade Freestyle

While nowhere near as annoying as the seemingly never ending “Exhibit C” freestyles, Bangladesh’s instrumental for “Lemonade” is getting close to being exhausted.  Having said that, Joell Ortiz’s verses always warrant a listen, regardless of what instrumental he decides bury.

Here’s a quick excerpt from the Brooklyn emcee’s remake of the citrus single:

“I’m from a housing tenement down in Brooklyn like Big and them,
I’ll be here forever, That’s why I stood next to Eminem,
Haters want to be like me, But that’ll just make ‘em synonyms...

Joell’s Free Agent album is gonna be crazy.

For his latest leak off the upcoming mixtape, 1140: The Overdose, hosted by DJ Drama, Pill goes in with a freestyle over Eazy-E’s classic “Real Mutherfuckin’ G’s.”

Pill comes hard on this remix with lyrics directed toward all the “fake ass, fraud ass niggas out there.”  Here’s the XXL Freshman’s second verse:

“Real mutherfuckin’ G’s,
Never hesitate to squeeze,
Do whatever for the cheese, we’ll burn ‘em,
Fourty Fifth to your sternum,
All I want is the paper,
If you’re broke, it don’t concern ya,
Unless you want to get taped up, we out chere,

Keep an eye out for the video to “OK Dennn” to drop sometime this week.  If it’s as graphic as “Trap Goin’ Ham,” Pill’s going to get some crazy buzz real fast!

Joell Ortiz – “Kawl Me” Remix

The “Kawl Me” Remix dropped only a few days ago, but I’m already crowning it as one of the most creative remixes of the year.  Statik Selektah took the already retro-feeling song, depicted with a ’90s-esque feel in this video directed by Rik Cordero, and placed Joell Ortiz’s verses over some of hip hop’s classic beats.

Hearing the Brooklyn emcee sound so at home over the instrumentals to ”From ‘93 Till Infinity,” “They Reminisce Over You,” and “Party and Bullshit,” has me anxious to hear what Joell cooked up for his upcoming Free Agent album.  When it comes to lyrics, Joell Ortiz is never one to disappoint.  With the right production behind him, this next project should do a great job of building his expansive following.  Here’s Statik tweeting about putting together the remix:

Joell enlisted some “project boys” for the video to this DJ Premier produced track.

“Its like i went celibate,
Cause aint nobody fucking with Ortiz this year.”

Alley Boy’s Definition of Fuck Shit mixtape dropped at 7:00PM this past Saturday.  Some have said that the project, hosted by DJ Holiday and The Empire, was the most anticipated mixtape since Young Jeezy’s Trap or Die.  Those are some big shoes to fill!

Shout out to JT for producing the mixtape’s first official single, “Tall,” featuring Young Dro.  Alley Boy’s opening verse gives us a glimpse into his style:

“Twenty fours on my old school,
I’m doing ninety, my davengers blue,
My trunk beatin, it’s killing you,
My paint candi, it’s killing you,
Windows tinted my sunroof,
These niggas hate, but I’m bullet proof,
My ice blinging, it’s blinding you,
But that’s just what the sun do,
I’m big spendin, my rims spinnin,
My golds’ shinin, Duct Tape with it,
My Louie shoes, and white linen,
I’m big money, you little pennies,
Asanti’s, Giovanni’s,
We back to back pullin’ in Onyx,
Dusty hoes they looking funny,
Givin the bad hoes the money,
In my headrest is TV’s,
Watching pornos in 3-D,
Little kids that screamin bingo, when I pass by and they see me.”

Alley Boy’s flow fits well over the beat, and that line about little kids screaming bingo is pretty hilarious.  Young Dro adds his signature flavor to the song with colorful phrases that describe his car and rims such as, “Dro, I’m real tall/  Sushi rims, they real raw.”

Alley Boy’s camp defines “fuck shit” as getting what you want by any means necessary.  For more on the Atlanta artist, check out our feature article.

Joell Ortiz – Call Me (Featuring Novel)

Here’s Joell Ortiz’s first single off the upcoming Free Agent album.

Rik Cordero’s video for “Call Me” literally transforms the song into a short film starring a young Joell Ortiz.  That scene where he passes the “Yes, No, Maybe” note is classic, but my favorite part of the video comes at the 1:30 mark when a fifteen-year-old Joell spits game over the phone, ha!

Instead of pointing out a single quote, I suggest you simply sit back and enjoy the show.  Every verse on “Call Me” builds off the last as Joell shows off his impressive storytelling skills.
