Aligning herself with two of the biggest names in the south, Lil Wayne and Gucci Mane, this unsigned Southside Jamaica Queens MC has done a great job putting herself on hip hop fan's radar.  Now she is on a mission to prove to the hip hop world that she has reached her current position due to her hustle and skills rather than her sex appeal. This new mission is being embraced by fans of her music, but questioned by the general hip hop community who until recently had just written her off as another attractive woman in hip hop who just happened to get on tracks with Gucci Mane and ...

10 Emerging Artists To Watch in 2010

Now that 2009 is coming to an end, here are ten emerging artists who are on pace to greatly enhance their careers during the new year.  I compiled this list by looking at artists who had impressive runs in 2009 and are entering into 2010 with a great deal of buzz and anticipation around future projects.

Before we get into it, I have purposely excluded Drake from my list because it's obvious that 2010 will be a major turning point in his career.  Having said that, it will surly be exciting to watch what the two-time Grammy nominee has in store for his debut album.

The hip hop community is one that quickly embraces new social media technology. Artists started using Ustream and Twitter long before the average person picked up those tools. All of your favorite rappers, from Jay-z to Chingy, have created accounts to further their personal brand. However, just like putting rhymes together, some artists tweet better than others.
An example of a hip hop artist building a community on Twitter is Young Money's Nicki Minaj. Nicki's followers have been growing rapidly over the past few months, bringing her to the current count of 530,150. Having not yet released an ...
The mixtape, which suffered numerous delays, finally dropped earlier this month. I was definitely surprised and had already accepted not being able to hear it anytime soon!

It turns out the music was well worth the wait. Fabolous acted out the mixtape artwork and laid to rest a good selection of beats.

Adding to the tape's "last rights-feel" was DJ Drama, who decided to change his knickname from Barak O'Drama to DraMcCain for this project. Regarding the switch, Drama explains how he's "starting to feel like a Republican, giving out the death penalty and killin' you niggas!" (More..)
Ludacris - My Chick Bad (Featuring Nicki Minaj) Shout out to whoever made that Youtube video, because it's holding me over until the official one drops.  After seeing the BTS photos of the video shoot, "My Chick Bad Remix" looks like it'll have nice visuals! Luda keeps his lyrics relevant to the song's title:
"Now your girl might be sick, but my girl sicker, She rides that dick and she handles her liquor, Will knock a bitch out and fight, Coming out swingin like Tiger Woods' wife."
That last line has me visualizing Tiger Woods' wife swinging a golf club viciously, ha! The track's ...
Congratulations to Nicki Minaj for continuing to kill the game with no album. It sounds like she has a major hit on her hands with "Massive Attack."

UPDATE: Download "Massive Attack," FULL VERSION via the homie KarenCivil.
Here's the visuals to one of Nicki Minaj's best tracks. For a closer look at her lyrics, check out my article where I break them down.

I hope all of the upcoming Lil Wayne videos are this dope!

Nicki Minaj - Massive Attack (Featuring Sean Garrett) Hype Williams went to work on the video for Nicki Minaj's first official single, "Massive Attack." The Harajuku Barbie continues to stand out from other female emcees with this video, which features her at exotic desert and rain forest locations. While the song doesn't contain amazing lyrics or carry a typical club banger beat, it does go hard enough to unite Nicki's loyal fans who will undoubtedly keep "Massive Attack" at #1 on the BET countdown until it's retired.  I'm sure it won't be long before another ...
Today Lil Wayne's super group, Young Money, hits the world with their debut album, We Are Young Money. Led by a Grammy award-winning, multi-platinum rap star (Lil Wayne), and two of the hottest emerging artists in the game (Drake & Nicki Minaj), it seems like Young Money has a promising future.  Having said that, they still have a lot to prove. Their hit single, "Every Girl," put the group on the nationwide radar in early 2009.  That track and Drake's "Best I Ever Had" seemed to be the only songs played on the radio this past spring. To help bring back some of that early buzz, they ...
